Compare the same scope before comparing totals
The prices above help you plan an Arlington drainage project, but two estimates can include different work under the same service name. One French-drain proposal may include a complete outlet route and lawn restoration; another may list only the collection trench. A basin price may cover the box without the connection needed to empty it. We explain those boundaries in the scope so the number corresponds to a usable system rather than a component that still needs additional work.
Length-based pricing is most helpful when the route and installation conditions are defined. A line crossing a paved path adds a different task from extending the same pipe through open turf. Deeper excavation changes soil handling and can affect access around existing utilities. Several downspouts sharing a route also introduce junctions and different flow requirements. Use the per-foot figures to understand an order of magnitude, then compare the total installation scope instead of assuming every extra foot has identical work attached.
Investigation can prevent spending on the wrong improvement. A drain that needs a reachable blockage removed differs from a line with a damaged connection or an outlet that cannot empty. We discuss what the assessment has established before recommending replacement. When buried conditions remain uncertain, the written estimate should explain which findings could change the work and how those decisions will be handled. That is more useful than an artificially precise total based on conditions no one has yet checked.
Restoration deserves its own review. Confirm how excavated soil, disturbed sod, planting areas and paving will be handled, including the limits of finish repairs. Also check whether any design, testing or coordination is part of the price or a separate scope. The goal is to understand what will be complete when the quoted work ends. We can then discuss the property-specific estimate using the same collection points, route and finish expectations rather than comparing totals for different projects.
